Anurag Kashyap took to X on Tuesday to issue a second apology to the Brahmin community for his alleged remarks against them. He said that he made the comment in anger and forgot his limits.

Taking to X, Anurag wrote in Hindi, “In a moment of anger, I forgot my limits while responding to someone and ended up insulting the entire Brahmin community. A community whose many members have been a part of my life and continue to contribute significantly to it. Today, all of them are hurt by my words. My family is hurt. Many intellectuals whom I deeply respect have been hurt by my anger and the way I expressed myself.”

He added that by making the comment he diverted the focus from the real issue. “I sincerely apologize to the community—I never intended to say what I did, but in a moment of rage, while responding to a vile comment, I wrote something I shouldn't have. I apologize to all my colleagues and friends, to my family, and to the community—for the way I spoke and for using offensive language.”

He ended his note saying, “I will work on making sure this doesn't happen again. I will work on my anger. And if I need to raise an issue, I will use the right words to do so. I hope you will forgive me.”

Last week, Anurag spoke strongly against the delay in release of the biopic, Phule, after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) asked for removal of caste references from the film. Anurag also got into an argument with one person online in the comments section of this post. The person said, “Brahmins tumhare baap hain. Jitna tumhari unse sulgegi utna tumhari sulgaayenge (Brahmins are your fathers. The more you mess with them, the more they will burn you). To this, Anurag replied, “Brahmin pe main mootoonga.. koi problem? (I will urinate on Brahmins... any problem?)”.

It was this comment that he made which was met with a lot of outrage online after which Anurag apologised, saying, “This is my apology, not for my post but for that one line taken out of context and the brewing hatred. No action or speech is worth your daughter, family, friends and colleagues getting rape and death threats from the kingpins of Sanskar.”

A complaint was also filed against the filmmaker in Jaipur by a resident who alleged that he made abusive remarks against Brahmins.
